It's a common occurrence. Science courses can be daunting. Sometimes it feels like our world doesn't make much sense. Plus, there are often complex math and physics concepts to take into account.

But you can relax. There are science classes that are easier than others to take.

In this article, we'll show you the easiest science classes to take in college. There are ways to determine which classes are easiest.

How much of the course deals with abstraction? Can you complete the class without having to deal with complex math and physics formulas? Is the course more about memorizing information?

This article assumes you are a non-science major who is forced to take science classes for your major. We analyzed various courses to see what made them easier or harder for students.

Here are the factors we came up with when picking the classes on the list.

Are the Courses Required for Science Majors?

This is easily the fastest way to understand whether a course is easy or not. A class in physics is going to be pretty damn hard, since it's a core component of a physics major. The same goes for chemistry and biology.

Conversely, there are plenty of classes that are on less abstract topics that you can take. Examples are environmental science, earth science, geology, and paleontology. These courses deal with problems you can easily visualize, since they are closer to the physical world we observe every day.

How much Math is Involved?

Since you're here, I'm going to assume you aren't particularly fond of sciences, and math is the foundation of many sciences. Take chemistry or physics for example. They are full of weird equations that don't seem to make any sense. If you hated math in high school you are not going to have fun with these classes.

Conversely, a course like nutrition or environmental sciences won't require much math or involve weird physics phenomena, which makes them way easier for someone who doesn't love science.

Math is a dealbreaker for many people. They just can't grasp the concept of numbers that well. I know because I'm one of them. Stay away from courses that require complex mathematical knowledge to be completed.

How Anchored to Reality is the Class?

With anchored to reality I'm referring to how much of your daily life could actually be impacted by the class. Knowing how electricity works won't really do much in your day-to-day life, but knowing about gravity could.

You could use the knowledge you acquire to tell people interesting facts. Let's say you take a course in geology. You would be able to tell your friends about certain rocks, or how the mountains around you were formed. That's cool and interesting.

Pick a Class that Interests You

You need a modicum of interest in the subject taught in the class you are looking to join. We understand you aren't a fan of science, or you wouldn't be reading this article. But finding the material interesting is a giant step in passing the class.

You'll still have to study for the class, so the least you can do is make sure you are studying something enjoyable.

Research the Course's Professor

There is a website called Rate My Professors that lets you look up the course's professor and see what their student thinks about them. Picking a class with a more laidback professor is an excellent way to ensure you'll pass the class without it feeling like torture.

I'm sure you've had demanding professors in your academic path. They can really suck up all the enjoyment derived from learning. Stay away from them. It's ok to have a demanding professor in a course that is important to your school path, because it helps you learn more about the subject.

Since we're after ease of completion, we shouldn't bother with classes taught by professors that will make the class more challenging than it needs to be.

The 4 Easiest Science Classes to Take in College

Now that we know what makes a science class easier than others, we can analyze which ones satisfy the requirements, and how.

Editor's note: the following classes are in no particular order. They are all easy enough, anyone should be able to complete them without any issue. The choice depends on what interests you the most.

1. Geology

Geology is widely regarded as one of the easiest science classes you could take in college. There's even a funny saying for it: "rocks for jocks". The saying comes from basic geology classes attended by college athletes, who would otherwise lose their ability to play because they wouldn't meet the academic requirements for college.

What makes geology easy is the fact that most of the course material is just information to memorize. The worst thing you could have to learn is fluid dynamics, but it's not that hard. It's stuff you were most likely taught in high school, so it shouldn't take much to re-learn them.

Naturally, this doesn't mean geology is easy in itself. More advanced classes are as challenging as advanced classes in other subjects. It just so happens that a basic course in geology should be easy enough for anyone.

2. Physics

Physics is a fascinating field, and taking a course in it will vastly improve your understanding of the world around us. While it's true that most physics courses are extremely challenging, many colleges offer physics courses that are directed at non-science majors.

In these courses you'll learn more about the observable world around us, and how physics in general works. You won't delve into the complex topics reserved to science majors. These courses are objectively challenging.

Warning: pick the right physics class. Not the one required for physics majors. It should be called something like "physics for non-science majors", or a more generic name about the workings of the world.

3. Astronomy

Astronomy is a weird subject. The class' difficulty depends mostly on the professor teaching it. Some will dive deep into the complex formulas and physics concepts that govern our universe. Others are ok with just showing what's cool about the universe.

If you are interested in cool pictures of black holes, planets in a galaxy far away, or learning about explosions that would put a tsar bomba to shame, then this course could be right up your alley.

Another perk of picking astronomy is that there's no laboratory to go along with classes. It's a relaxing course with interesting material. Although I do not recommend it if you're a paranoid person. Knowing about the dangers, however minimal, of a meteorite or the sun bursting randomly might add unnecessary stress to your life.

Warning: this is the course where the professor makes the biggest impact, so do your research before picking an astronomy class.

4. Zoology

Who doesn't love animals? Zoology is a fun class to take. You'll learn about animal diversity, how they evolved over time, and how they adapted to living in their environments.

You'll also learn about genetics and DNA, and how evolution is affected by minute changes in a species' DNA.

What's cool about zoology is that it's mostly about learning and memorizing facts. I understand it doesn't sound that thrilling, but since animals are cool, most people should find it somewhat interesting.

Granted, if you are someone who doesn't care in the slightest about animals, you should probably look for other courses on this list.

Conclusions

Many people loathe science classes because they feel like they talk about stuff that seems irrelevant to the world. It is true for the more advanced classes, those usually attended by science majors. But it doesn't have to be.

If you take the classes in this article, you'll find that science can be exciting. It doesn't have to be abstract stuff that we can ignore or that bores us to death. Human knowledge is so vast you'll surely find   something that interests you.

The biggest reason to take one of these classes is that the subjects interests you. If you take a class you don't care about you will fail it, no matter how easy it is. It's better to pick a slightly harder class if you will put in more effort to complete it.
